“You’ve got eight sounds that can be generated synthetically, and you can randomize those sounds individually. But you can also just randomize the entire kit in one go, which is a really quick way of getting somewhere interesting.
And it doesn’t stop at the sounds. You can randomize the patterns and sequences as well.
There are three different flavours of sequence generation. You’ve got your classic four-to-the-floor stuff, something a bit more groovy with an electro feel, and then something that goes much further into IDM territory.
And there’s actually quite a lot going on here. It’s a fairly deep system, but somehow it remains pretty intuitive. You need a little bit of time to wrap your head around the way everything works, but the randomization makes it very easy to just dive in, hit a few things, and immediately get something usable.
The interesting part is when you want to get very specific. Because there’s quite a lot of depth here, finding exactly the rhythm or sound you have in your head takes a bit more time and experimentation.
One thing I really like is the way it handles those little bouncing-ball-type sounds. On short percussive sounds, you can get this really nice sense of movement and physicality, rather than just having a static sequence of triggers.
And because of all these different ways of generating and shaping the sounds and rhythms, it can actually cover quite a broad range of styles.
There are obviously plenty of drum machines and drum modules out there, but this definitely brings a different approach to the table.
It’s intuitive, there’s a huge amount of variation in the sounds, and once you start digging into the randomization and sequencing, there’s actually a surprising amount of depth here.
Definitely one to check out.”
